The Metadata Checklist to Run Before You Release
Metadata is the quiet infrastructure of every release. When it is consistent, platforms display your work correctly, credits are attributed properly, and listeners can actually find you. When it is inconsistent, the same song can appear under three different artist names.
Start with names
Decide on the exact spelling and capitalization of your artist name and use it everywhere — no variations. The same applies to featured artists and any collaborators.
Get credits right
List writers, producers, and performers accurately. Credits are not just courtesy; they connect your work to the people who made it and matter for downstream rights and royalties.
Match your assets
Track titles, album titles, artwork, and ISRCs should agree across every field and every platform. A mismatch is one of the most common reasons a release looks broken.
Prepare, then coordinate
Once your metadata is clean, coordinate with your distributor rather than rushing the upload. A calm pre-flight check saves days of corrections later.
